As an autistic trans person living in the UK who runs a fact-checking blog on Tumblr, I feel like I'm probably contractually obligated to talk about the Cass Review. The report and the media reaction to it has hit me hard, and I think I'm going to find it hard to focus on anything else for at least a little while. I'm about half way through reading the review, and I'm doing my best to look at it from an objective standpoint rather than an emotional one.
Right now, there are a lot of angry people - and I should know, because I'm one of them. But I want to channel that anger into something productive, so I've decided that I will be making my own review of the review, expanding the studies that were included and including the ones that were not, as well as evaluating the recommendations given by the report. I have no idea of the time frame for this, but given the length of the report it is safe to say this is going to take a while. I intend on keeping this blog running throughout, but given that I have a limited amount of time and energy reblogs may slow down.
Obviously, this is quite a big task, and unlike Hilary Cass this is not my day-job, so I would really appreciate all the help I can get. If any of you have any expertise in this field (or have contacts who are), I would love to hear your opinions on the Cass Review. A more general call goes out to anyone with knowledge of any research that were not included in the Cass Review, or any background on those that were.
Anyone with sources, research or even just opinions/personal stories (whatever view you take on the review) is welcome to contact me. I will be keeping my inbox open to anonymous asks, and checking all of the reblogs of this post and any updates I give.
To my trans siblings in the UK: stay safe out there. I love you.
TL;DR: Send in studies, sources or personal responses to the Cass Review as I will be collating a response to the report!
